The SLM Project was a game project I did during my 6th semester at Cologne Game Lab in collaboration with Jana Lehning, Anna Oberhauser, Lara Streppelmann, Lewin Husted, Philip Nees, and Jeldrik Gaal. This game was commissioned by the Siegerlandmuseum for their visitors to learn more about Johan Maurits, a historical figure. This impact game’s goal is to challenge existing biases toward Johan Maurits and give the players all the information they need to form a fact-based opinion. The game consists of 3 main parts: 1. An Interactive Menu, 2. a point-and-click game that presents the player with a still of Johan Maurits’ Palace in Dutch Brazil, where they can see and discover how it might have looked and what kinds of people they might have found there. 3. A card game with a narrative-based matching mechanic in which the players need to match cards to form several storylines.
